All the preparatory work including two steel parking aprons for helicopter have been completed for the launch of "air police" in the Chinese capital next year, according to news from Asian Pacific China Police Expo 2006.
Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau is now making a feasible plan for the helicopter amount, type, equipment as well as other related issues. It is said that police helicopter will be used to carry out the safety and security work during 2008 Olympic Games. Apart from that the police also plans to build an emergency helicopter parking area near the Olympic sports venues during the Games.
At the expo many international helicopter producers demonstrated the application of helicopter in developed countries. Police helicopter is mainly used for the purposes of search and rescue, traffic control, evidence collection for sudden accidents, as well as high-altitude photography. The scope of monitoring of police helicopter is 15 times as large as ground police's and for those areas where "air police" patrol is employed, robbery, theft and other street crimes will be reduced by 50 percent.
