Airbus scores against Boeing at show
07/21/2006

Airbus has orders for 62 new airplanes, beating Boeing in the number of deals annouced at the Farnborough International Airshow in the UK, but not in their value.

This is likely to be welcome news for Airbus after being plagued by A380 superjumbo's costly production delays. Boeing has only picked up orders for just 14 new jets.

Airbus is looking at orders or commitments for 85 planes, worth $10 billion including a deal of $4.7 billion deal with AirAsia.

There is also a memorandum of understanding with Spain's Grupo Marsans that could lead to sales worth $3.6 billion. Aegean Airlines, has also ordered three more A320s.

Libya's Afriqiyah Airways has also signed up for up to six A330 and up to 14 A320 planes in a deal worth $1.7 billion.

Indian low cost airline GoAir is buying 10 of its A320 planes, worth $670 million at list prices. GoAir also has an option to buy 10 more.

While Boeing achieved commitments for 76 aircraft selling larger jets than Airbus, topping the $10 billion mark in new business.

Leasing firm, International Lease Finance Corp. has ordered six 737-800s, two 777-300ERs and two 787 Dreamliners, valued at approximately $1.2 billion.

Emirates said it would buy 10 of Boeing's 747-8 freighter planes for $3.3 billion, deliveries will start from 2010.

While Indonesia's Lion Air placed an order for 30 Boeing 737-900ER planes worth over $2.2 billion at list prices.
