On 28 October 2007, China Eastern Airlines launched the inaugural flight from Macau to Shanghai with seven flights a week. The flight number will be MU2011/2012 and using the Airbus 320. This is the third airline running the Macau to Shanghai service and providing a convenient point-to-point service for both regions.
During the opening ceremony, Macau International Company Co. Ltd with China Eastern Airlines presented some souvenirs for all passengers on the flight.
China Eastern Airlines believed that the operation of Macau to Shanghai route would play a remarkable role in the strategic plan on developing the regional market.
Along with the operation of the Shanghai to Hong Kong route, Shanghai to Macao route and Shanghai to Jeju route, China Eastern will now have three spots including Hong Kong, Macao and Jeju in the region. Diversify the product structure, as well as enrich and improve the constitution of regional network which can further expands the market share of China Eastern in the region.
At present, Air Macau and the Shanghai Airlines also provides daily flight service for the Shanghai route, and joining from China Eastern will create a more intense competition. Shanghai route has now become the second route after the Taiwan route that has surpassed two Airlines operating the service.
