Top officials with China Eastern Airlines and China National Aviation Holding Companies (CNAHC), parent company of Air China, met on Wednesday, with no consensus reached on the eye- catching issue of China Eastern-Singapore Airline (SIA) deal.
Li Fenghua, board chairman of China Eastern, elaborated the idea and significance of the company's cooperation with SIA. While Li Jiaxiang, board chairman of Air China, reiterated his cooperation proposal, namely, to combine the two airline companies' relevant business, co-operate on flight lines and exchange part of equity stakes.
Li Jiaxiang's remark reflects Air China's divergence with China Eastern. Insiders pointed out that, in accordance with the idea of Li Jiaxiang, he expects the two companies to realize co-operation of Beijing-Shanghai flight lines and international flight lines, combine cargo businesses and realize cross share holding.
Upon the market hearsay that CNAHC and small and medium shareholders will support the China-Eastern-SIA deal on the coming shareholders meeting on Jan. 8, a relevant official with CNAHC denies such saying, adding that the company is yet to reach final decision on this issue.
