Kunpeng Airlines Co Ltd, a regional carrier set up by US-based Mesa Air Group and China's Shenzhen Airlines Co Ltd, has entered an order for 100 ARJ21 regional jets, China's first such homegrown aircraft.
The ARJ21 is designed and manufactured by China Aviation Industry Corp I (AVIC I).
Kunpeng Air's purchase was announced during a ceremony held today in Shanghai to mark the roll-out of the first ARJ21.
Financial details of the order were not revealed.
The turbofan-powered plane will enter flight testing in March and is expected to be ready for delivery in the third quarter of 2009.
Other domestic carriers, including Shanghai Airlines, Shandong Airlines and Xiamen Airlines, have already placed orders for 71 ARJ21 jets.
