BOC Aviation leases 5 B737s to Jet Airways
Published: Jan 15, 2008

BOC Aviation, formerly Singapore Aircraft Leasing Enterprise (SALE), has signed agreements with India's Jet Airways for the lease of five Boeing Next Generation 737s.

Financial terms were not disclosed. The aircraft will be delivered new from the Boeing final assembly line between March 2010 and November 2011.

The aircraft will be leased to the airline for a period of 10 years each.

The latest deals with Jet Airways bring to seven the total number of aircraft being leased to the airline from BOC Aviation. Jet Airways said it will use the aircraft to increase capacity on its extensive domestic route network, as well as on select international routes.

Robert Martin, CEO of BOC Aviation, said that the company was pleased to be able to conclude follow-on deals with Jet Airways.

"Jet Airways is firmly established as a world class airline with a reputation for operational and service excellence," he said. "We look forward to developing further our partnership with the airline and playing a long-term role in the carrier's future fleet requirements."

BOC Aviation maintains a fleet of 76 aircraft flying with 29 airlines worldwide. The company has 40 more 737 aircraft on firm order for delivery from Boeing through to 2011.

Bank of China (BOC) acquired Singapore Aircraft Leasing Enterprise (SALE) in Dec. 2006, in a deal valued at $1.5 billion.

The aircraft leasing business in China is heating up. In the Chinese airline sector, about 70% of aircraft are leased, and 90% of them are leased through overseas companies. And now, Chinese banks are also looking to get in on the action.
