The Beijing Capital International Airport is expected to benefit most from the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
The airport has not only maintained its position as the leading hub of international flights on the mainland but also been acquiring other airport assets in the country to reach the goal of becoming a regional civil aviation center.
The Capital International Airport's turnover attributable to shareholders in the first half of 2007 reached 567 million yuan, a 2 percent increase year-on-year, which was far lower than the corresponding figure of 2006 (38.58 percent) and the annual growth rate of that year (20.3 percent).
The disappointing result was due to a sharp increase in the number of employees needed to man the newly-completed Passenger Terminal 3 (T3), where the new staff more than doubled the company's cost of human resources to 80.27 million yuan. That in turn inflated its overall operating cost by 22 percent, to an annual total of 7.47 billion yuan.
In comparison, the airport saw a large number of employees leave in 2006 as a result of business reshuffle, which enabled it to achieve a 12.3 percent reduction in operating cost that year. Its earnings per share was 0.14 yuan and the interim dividend was 0.04133 yuan a share, while turnover went up by 16 percent year-on-year, to a total of 1.663 billion yuan. That's why it did better in 2006 than in 2005.
The growth of its turnover in 2007 is expected to be higher than that of net profit. The airport should still be able to see an increase of 5 percent in annual turnover attributable to shareholders which is forecast to reach 1.146 billion yuan.
