China is considering cutting take-off and landing fees collected from foreign carriers by 40% starting from March. The fee collected from domestic airlines for domestic routes will also decrease by 20%.
The Civil Aviation Administration of China says it will unveil full details of the programme on 1 March.
The administration says that it plans to unify airport charges for international routes paid by domestic and foreign carriers within five years. The new rules will be implemented in two steps, but a detailed timeline has not been set.
The new airport fee programme is expected to help carriers cut costs by 2-3% in general, while airport income will decline by 2-3%.
