UK company SSP International (Select Service Provider) has won a seven-year deal to operate 10 retail outlets at Shanghai Pudong International Airport Terminal Two. The contract is valued at US$206 million (Yuan 1,600 million). The first units will begin trading when the new terminal opens in March 2008.
Among the brands that will feature at the facility are Cafè Ritazza, dumpling concept Tian Xia, Heineken Bar and Burger King. SSP will also offer a number of specially tailored concepts and selected local franchises, including a Teppanyaki Japanese restaurant, which will serve stir-fries prepared and served from a large table-top grill.
A fine dining concept, called Peace @ the Bund is also planned, which will recreate the atmosphere of 1930s Shanghai. The restaurant will serve a range of traditional Chinese dishes with a contemporary twist. Other units will include a Chinese tea house, a Chinese restaurant serving Shanghai and Cantonese cuisine, a Korean fast food outlet and an Italian restaurant.
Commenting on the win, SSP Asia Pacific region managing director Darren Lau says: "This win marks another significant milestone in SSP's ambitious plans for expansion into mainland China. We are delighted to be a part of such an exciting project in a market that offers enormous potential for future growth. We have a strong track record in this region, and undoubtedly this helped us to secure this latest contract."
