To hail 2010 Shanghai Expo, and perfect function of Shanghai air hub serviing Yangtze River delta region and the national economic and social development, we are now gearing up for the expansion project of Hongqiao airport including Terminal 2 and the second runway, and the large-size comprehensive transportation center will be completed before 2010 Expo.
Expansion project
The expansion project Hongqiao airport is designed for the goals of passenger turnover of 40 million, cargo and mail turnover of 1 million tons in 2015. It will include a 3300 x 60 meters 4E class near-distance parallel runway, a 250000-square-meter terminal, and other public facilities.
Comprehensive transportation center
As guided by Shanghai urban transport plan, a modern large-size comprehensive transportation center, integrating hi-speed railway, inter- and inner city rail transport, public bus, taxi service, will be connected to the new terminal of Hongqiao airport in the expansion project. Aside from these, passengers can transfer to other transportation means including air or ground transit.
It is anticipated that the project will take form on its initial stage by the end of 2009, and be put into use in 2010 Shanghai Expo. Until then, transportation will be made much more convenient for passengers and cargoes coming in and out of Shanghai airport from Yangtze River delta region, especially Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces.
