Liquid security detection equipment will be deployed at all major airports in China before the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, according to Gu Qiming, chief officer of the East China Aviation Security department.
The plan to upgrade security follows a failed attempt by a passenger last Friday, to set fire to a China Southern Airlines flight CZ6901 from Urumqi, the capital of China's traditionally Muslim Xinjiang region, to Beijing.
The incident raised concerns for passenger safety ahead of the Beijing Olympic Games in August and has prompted a tightening of security at Urumqi airport following the incident.
Nuctech's THSCAN LS 8016 X-Ray Liquid Security Scanner is currently the only equipment approved for installation in all China's airports. The company claims the unit can detect and identify flammable, corrosive and explosive liquid substances during a single analysis within six seconds.
