Cathay Pacific Chief Executive, Tony Tyler, was in Vancouver last Friday for a special celebration marking the airline's 25th Anniversary of service between Vancouver and Hong Kong.
Since its first flight to Vancouver in 1983, the luxury Hong Kong international airline has grown from 2 to 21 flights weekly - offering more non-stop service to Hong Kong than any other airline.
"I was based in Vancouver when Cathay Pacific pioneered long-haul transpacific service with the first non-stop flight between Vancouver and Hong Kong," said Mr. Tyler at the 900-person gala celebration. "Today, we're pleased to offer triple-daily service from Vancouver to Hong Kong in response to growing demand for travel to Hong Kong, China and other parts of Asia."
Government officials, members of the travel industry, business executives and media joined Cathay Pacific VIPs and the airline's Canadian team at the Hyatt Regency for the special celebration. The event included the unique Walking on Air fashion show, a retrospective of cultural and aviation history told through Cathay Pacific uniforms spanning the airline's history of more than 60 years.
