To meet the requirement for the increasing air traffic flows during the Olympic Games, China opened the new corridor on April 10, which is the latest move to reduce air traffic congestion ahead of the Olympics. The new air route bypassing Hefei, Zhoukou, Zhengzhou, Taiyuan, Hohhot and Mongolia and connecting with the trunk routes in the areas of Middle South and China East. With the new route, flights from Shanghai, Guangzhou and Hong Kong to Europe will no longer be required to pass through Beijing. It can reduce air traffic pressure over Beijing and shorten the flight distance among European and Asian major cities, which is an important measure to guarantee the smooth air traffic for Beijing Olympic Games.
Meanwhile, the three major air traffic flow over Beijing have been optimized and adjusted. The air route capacity between China and Europe has been greatly enlarged.
