Cargo throughput at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) rose 7.3% in April on a year earlier, reaching 320,000 tonnes.
Airport Authority Hong Kong Chief Executive Officer Stanley Hui said the month saw a significant increase in cargo transshipments to and from North America and the Mainland. Imports and exports to the Asia Pacific region and exports to Europe and North America also recorded healthy growth.
He said the authority will monitor the global markets and is cautiously optimistic about the months ahead.
During the month 4.1 million passengers travelled through the airport, up 0.4%, while aircraft movements also rose 2.6%, to 25,060.
In the first four months of this year, passenger throughput reached 16.2 million while cargo volume hit 1.2 million tonnes. There were 99,320 aircraft movements.
