Air China emergency plan in effect after earthquake in southwest China

A major earthquake hit Wenchuan County, Sichuan Province at 14:28 PEK time on May 12, 2008. The Chengdu Shuangliu (CTU) airport is closed until further notice.  Twelve Air China flights en route to Chengdu have been diverted to the other airports.

Air China's emergency plan went into effect at 15:00 PEK time. Air China flights en route are in close communication with Air China headquarters regarding the situation. At the time of this announcement, there has not been any property or casualty damage reported at the Air China southwest subsidiary.

Air China has instructed all of its relevant offices to implement an emergency plan and service any stranded passengers. Air China also has several airplanes on standby to restore normal operations and conduct special tasks if necessary.
