Victims of a 7.8 earthquake that struck China several days ago are receiving much needed supplies from Andersen Air Force Base and the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
According to Tech. Sgt. Brian Bahret, AAFB spokesman, about 50 airmen from Andersen Air Force Base teamed up with FEMA representatives to deliver 33 short tons or about 66,000 lbs. of supplies to the Shuangliu International Airport in Chengdu, China.
Bahret said the supplies were transported from a FEMA warehouse in Barrigada, brought to Andersen, then loaded on 18 pallets that were placed on to a C-17 Globe Master 3 aircraft bound for the area.
Taking part in the effort were personnel from the 36th Logistic Readiness Squadron, GS21, 36th Contingency Response Group, the 554th Red Horse Squadron, and the 734th Air Mobility Squadron.
"We're fortunate that we had them for us to use for China," Bahret said, adding that they got the call last Friday and were able to get the supplies ready by 3 p.m. in the afternoon.
