Carrier to donate cash and cargo to relief efforts
Published: May 22, 2008

United Airlines is joining customers and employees to support the victims of the China earthquake by contributing to relief efforts. The United Airlines Foundation is matching up to $50,000 in donations from employees and will give out up to 5 million frequent flyer miles -- 500 bonus miles to each Mileage Plus customer who donates at least $50 to the American Red Cross through united.com.

"There has been an outpouring of concern and interest to help victims of the devastating earthquake in China," says Sonya Jackson, managing director - Corporate Social Investment and president of the United Airlines Foundation. "United has a long history of flying to China, and we will supplement the generous donations of our customers and employees to support these life-saving relief efforts."

United is partnering with the American Red Cross, which is working closely with the Red Cross Society of China and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. The carrier will also provide cargo space to transport critical supplies to the region.  United is also collaborating with Operation USA and its Star Alliance partners to identify and facilitate relief needs.
