On May 12, 2008, Wenchuan was struck by a devastating earthquake. However, the children who survived this natural disaster have shown incredible bravery and courage, which has touched us all. They undeniably suffered the double blow of both physical and mental pain. But disaster cannot deprive their right to happiness.
On May 28, in anticipation of Children's Day on June 1, BOCOG wrote to the Olympic Work Office of Air China in hope that they would agree to arrange an urgent delivery of 6,000 Fuwa plush toys for children in earthquake-hit areas in Sichuan Province. According to measurements, there are a total of 120 cartons of toys, with a total volume of 45.6m3 and a total weight of 2.4 tons. This information was immediately reported to Air China leaders, who decided after negotiations that Air China would provide free delivery for children in earthquake-hit areas so as to fulfill so many children's dream: "I hope I can have a Fuwa". It was decided that the transportation be handled jointly by Air China Cargo and the Ground Services division of Air China. Upon receiving the important assignment, these two divisions speedily arranged transportation despite working under an extremely tight schedule. It is expected that the Fuwa toys will be delivered in two shipments and will reach earthquake-affected areas in Sichuan Province by May 29.
June 1, Children's Day, is just around the corner. As a large-scale state-owned aviation enterprise as well as the sole designated passenger airline partner of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, Air China has once again illustrated the spirit of the company - "serving the world with love" - through concrete actions.
