After separating for six decades, this Friday is an historical time for Mainland and Taiwan to have regular direct flights, which allow millions of tourists visit mutual sides. It is believed to advance the cross-Strait relations in both economical and political senses.
According to Li Peng, Xiamen University in China Taiwan Research assistant, "It will have positive meaning for relations between the two sides."
The first flight will be on 4 July. There are totally 36 round-trip, skipping stopovers in Hong Kong and Macau, from Taiwan to Mainland Cities of Beijing, Guangzhou, Nanjing, Shanghai and Xiamen and back.
It is believed this historical move is promoted by Hong Kong-born Taiwan President Ma Ying-Jeou who promised to foster the direct flights for the goodness of Taiwan economic development; he eliminated hesitations of Taiwan Government and helped create a link with Mainland China.
Before, Chinese and Taiwan tourist visit both lands indirectly, but now, after the top negotiators come to agreement, 3,000 Chinese Tourists can visit Taiwan directly.
For the huge influx of Chinese Tourist, Taiwan's main opposition Democratic Progressive Party, Cheng Wen-tsang, promotions director pointed out that Taiwan's domestic airport together with seven other China-ready airports are not ready for too few flights, loose security and poor disease control measures.
However, the foremost trip from Taiwan is sold out and the first flight from China was nearly full as of Wednesday afternoon.
There are more than 1 million Taiwanese live on the Mainland, estimated pouring $100 billion accumulatively. Except utilizing the low-cost labors in Mainland, Taiwan will also enjoy huge influx of interested tourists from Mainland, about 50 millions, expected by Ma.
For the closer linkage between two coasts economically, it will surely promote "the exchanges and encounters will increase, moreover, helping each side understand the other" as suggested by Li Peng. It is truly the very step, which is also historical one, for the two coasts to get closer especially the long-time separated peoples.
Under the new movement, Hong Kong is believed to find out the new economical and historical roles in-between.
