Abacus to support new Taiwan and mainland China flights
Published: Jul 07, 2008

The commencement of open travel between China and Taiwan has been embraced by Abacus International, who intend to facilitate the chartered flights to and from the Mainland.

Five decades of restricted transportation between the two regions are ready to cease, and hence Abacus are waiting to facilitate bookings for new direct flights.

Brett Henry, VP of Agency Marketing for Abacus, has noted that the facilitation of the flights will enhance the North Asia travel market.

"With the extended range of airfares now available between Taiwan and China added to our leading net fares solution, Abacus FareX, we will ensure our travel agency partners can continue to offer travellers the best range and most competitive fares available," Henry continued.

Flights available from China Airlines, Uni Airways, EVA Airways, Mandarin Airlines, Air China, China Eastern and TransAsia Airways will be carried by Abacus FareX.

"Abacus has had a strong presence in the Taiwan market for 18 years," Henry added. "Over the years, we have gained a strong understanding of the market's needs."

"Now with the opening up of the air route between the island and Asia powerhouse, China, we are well-placed to provide the necessary expertise to our respective industry partners."

Abacus FareX is utilised for management and distribution by over 200 airline sales offices within the Asia Pacific region.

"On other routes Abacus FareX has proven to be a vital channel that not only allows us the flexibility to update and distribute net fares information anytime but also provides the extensive reach to over 15,000 Abacus-connected agency locations in the region," commented Mr Wang Yin Chuang., Manager, Pricing and Interlining Department, Passenger Sales, China Airlines.

"We are happy to be working even more closely with Abacus in taking this newly opened travel business between China and Taiwan to new heights."

Abacus-connected agencies expect to continue to benefit from the cross-strait offerings, as Tang Pei Pei, Manager, Travel Operations, American Express Taiwan commented.

"Now with Abacus' expanded distribution network to include the China and Taiwan route, we have more to offer to the marketplace," Tang noted.

From Taiwan merchants' charter flights in 2003, to Chinese traditional festivals charter flights, and to weekend charter flights which take off on July 4, 2008, China mainland and Taiwan are walking smoothly towards regular direct cross-straits flights.
