Cathay Life Insurance Co., Ltd. (Shanghai), a 50-50 joint venture between Cathay Life Insurance Co., Ltd. (Taiwan) and China Eastern Air Holding Co., has cast its eye to people who plan to take the direct weekend charter flights to pay a visit to Taiwan.
 
In order to attract more consumers, the venture, in partnership with its Mainland Chinese shareholder China Eastern Air Holding, held a Taiwanese food festival in May this year. In addition, it provides consumers that will take the first direct weekend chartered flight to Taiwan with its VIP cards, through which they can enjoy services like telephone medical consultation in Taiwan.

On June 13, the Chinese mainland reached an agreement with Taiwan to launch direct weekend chartered flights across the Taiwan Strait, over which chartered flights have been operated only at major festivals. The service, scheduled to start from July 4, will include 36 return flights for every weekend, from each Friday to the following Monday, and the number will increase according to demand, the agreement said.
