As the Olympics approach, central and local authorities are working together to ensure optimum safety and security during the Games.
Many domestic airports, including Beijing's Capital International Airport, will adopt special security checks from July 20th to ensure safe air transport for the Games.
Zhang Zhi, Public Security Authority said "We have set up special anti-explosives checks at all the entrances of Terminals 1, 2 and 3. We will check all passengers and their carry-on luggage."
Airport staff and people picking up or seeing off passenger must also undergo checks at the terminal entrance.
Zhang Zhi said "It's compulsory. Nobody who refuses to be checked will be allowed into the departure hall."
Areas surrounding the airport are also being closely managed. Barriers have been set up on all roads leading to the airport.
From July 20th, police and soldiers will conduct random checks on people and vehicles on major roads leading to the airport expressway.
Public security authorities in Beijing have set up three defense lines to beef up safety checks for people and vehicles entering the city.
The first line includes check points on expressways, national highways and town or village roads linking Beijing with other provinces and cities.
Patrol posts on the second line are stationed on major suburban roads leading to the downtown area.
The third line covers all major roads in downtown districts.
To prevent traffic jams caused by the checks, the number of staff at the checkpoints will be increased. Suspicious people or vehicles will be taken off the road and handed over to the police.
