HK stocks close higher on Fri

Hong Kong stocks closed slightly higher on Friday, led by banking, airlines sectors and mainland China market bolstered investor sentiment.

Hang Seng Index, the benchmark, soared 139.47 points, or 0.64% to close at 21,874.19 points after fluctuating between 21,677.15 points and 22,010.94 points. Mainboard turnover fell to HK$59.57 billion from HK$63.46 billion of the previous trading day.

Hang Seng China Enterprise Index, which tracks the overall performance of 43 Chinese mainland state-owned enterprises on Hong Kong Stock Exchange, surged 67 points, or 0.56% to 12,123.00 points.

Market heavyweight HSBC Holdings Plc, which accounts for the largest weighting for the Hang Seng Index, moved up 2.56% or HK$3.0, to HK$120. Bank of East Asia climbed 0.69% to HK$36.30.

Among Chinese mainland banks, the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, the nation's largest lender, ended up 1.46% at HK$5.55. China Construction Bank rose 0.62% to HK$6.48. Bank of Communications gained HK$0.13 or 1.39% at HK$9.48.

Oil stocks also gained on Friday. Sinopec, Asia's largest oil refiner, surged 0.134% to HK$7.49, and smaller rival PetroChina, the country's largest oil producer and also involved in refining business, rose 0.6% to HK$10.04.
 
Among airlines, Cathay Pacific surged 3.13% to HK$15.14. Air China soared 2.63% to HK$4.29 while China Southern Airlines dipped 1.85% to HK$3.13.

China Life, the nation's biggest insurer, was flat to close at HK$28.05. Smaller rival Ping An Insurance added 2.912 % to HK$51.25. However, China Mobile Ltd, the country's largest cell phone carrier, dipped 0.951% to HK$104.2.
