Kuomintang's Honorary Chairman Lien Chan and his wife have arrived in Beijing from Taiwan to attend the Olympic opening ceremony on Friday. 

The director of the CPC Central Committee's Taiwan Work Office, Wang Yi, welcomed the couple at the airport on Tuesday afternoon.

Lien Chan says he believes the Beijing Olympics will promote friendship and world peace, and it's his great honor to view the event in Beijing. He also wishes the Games a success.

Wang Yi says Beijing welcomes Taiwan athletes to compete in the Summer Games, and wishes them the best of luck. KMT Chairman Wu Poh-hsiung and the chairman of Taiwan's People First Party, James Soong, will also attend the opening ceremony.
