A Hainan Airlines Boeing 737-800, registration B-5338 performing flight HU7227 from Haikou to Changsha (China) with 148 passengers and 9 crew, overran the runway on landing in Changsa at approximately 10am local time (02:00Z). All wheels went off paved surface and got stuck in soft area besides the runway. No injuries have been reported.
The airport had to be closed for 6 hours.
It is currently suspected, that the airplane landed long, couldn't stop before the runway end, so that the crew attempted to pull the airplane out to the taxiway, but didn't make the turn and got stuck in the lawn instead.
