Shanghai International Airport Co Ltd reported its net profit for the first half fell 39.1 pct from a year earlier, due mainly to increased operating costs despite higher passenger and cargo traffic.

Shanghai International Airport currently operates two airports -- Pudong International Airport and Hongqiao Airport in the big east China city. It said Pudong Airport contributed most of its revenue for the period.

Pudong International Airport handled 130,461 aircraft landings and take-offs in the first six months to June, up 6.77 pct from a year earlier. Passenger traffic rose 2.65 pct to 14.02 mln, with freight traffic up 10.23 pct at 1.29 mln tons.

No traffic details for Hongqiao Airport were provided.

The company booked 1.57 bln yuan in operating revenue from January to June, up 4.3 pct from a year ago. Operating costs rose 49 pct due to higher depreciation of its facilities and rising labor costs.

It did not provide any earnings forecast for the rest of the year.
