Beijing is gearing up for the Paralympic Games. The host city has transformed its public transportation system to suit the needs of people with disability.
Among the more than 4,000 athletes participating in the Paralympics, half of them travel with wheelchairs. To meet their needs, Capital Airport's terminal three has made over 400 alterations to its facilities including the arrival hall, elevators and check-in desks. They've even installed six temporary toilets with disabled access.
On the streets of the city, some of the taxis have taken on a different look. Beijing has imported 70 cabs from Britain that have wider spaces to carry passengers with wheelchairs. Vans have also been upgraded with lifts to help carry disabled people.
Beijing Bus Group made adjustments to nearly 1,000 buses to meet the requirement of athletes competing in the Paralympics.
"We've installed three measures to secure the wheelchairs. The brake, the wheel block and the safety belt."
The group will run over 2,800 buses on 16 lines specially designed for the Paralympics.
Subway stations are also seeing changes. New lifts have been installed to carry passengers up and down the staircases.
