MTR Corporation has been awarded a five-year contract to operate and maintain the Automated People Mover (APM) system at Hong Kong International Airport. This follows the previous maintenance contract awarded to the Corporation in 2005.
Under the new contract, the Corporation will be responsible for operating and maintaining the APM cars, power distribution system, platform screen doors and tracks. These include the existing 2.6-kilometre of tracks as well as the 0.5-kilometre SkyPier
Extension Line.
Mr Andrew McCusker, Operations Director of the MTR Corporation said, "The new contract is a further recognition of MTR's quality service and expertise in operating and maintaining the APM system over the past seven years." "The MTR will strive to continue providing a smooth and reliable intra-Airport service for air passengers boarding and alighting flights."
The long-term relationship between the Corporation and the Airport Authority Hong Kong started in 2001 when the Corporation was awarded its first contract to operate and maintain the APM system between the East Hall and the West Hall in the Terminal 1.
