Five Chinese aircraft manufactures, namely Harbin Aircraft Industry Group Co Ltd, Shaanxi Aircraft Co, Chengdu Aircraft Industrial (Group) Co Ltd, Shenyang Aircraft Corp and Xi'an Aircraft Industry (Group) Co Ltd, have been chosen to be the major manufacturers for China's large plane project, sources reported.
Chengdu Aircraft Industry will establish an aircraft industry park in Chengdu, which will be producing parts and components for the jumbo jet. It has already contracted with the government of Qingyang district, to set up the park with an initial investment of RMB 570 million.
Previously, Chengdu Aircraft Industry has been producing parts and components for Boeing and Airbus.
The new aircraft industry park is not only necessary for the enlarged outsourcing business but also important for China's large plane project, said one of the industry insiders.
Currently, the final assembly, research and development base of the jumbo jet will be located in Shanghai, and the testing will be conducted in a new runway will be constructed in Shanghai Pudong International Airport.
Chengdu Aircraft Industrial (Group) Co Ltd, Shenyang Aircraft Corp and Xi'an Aircraft Industry (Group) Co Ltd are subsidiaries under China Aviation Industry Corporation I (AVIC I), while Harbin Aircraft Industry Group Co Ltd and Shaanxi Aircraft Co are under the control of China Aviation Industry Corporation II (AVIC II).
