Zhang Zhizhong, general manager of Capital Airports Holding Company (CAHC the mother company of Beijing Capital International Airport), announced to that it is planning to build an Asia-Pacific international hub when attending the 14th World Routes Development Forum in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
This is the fifth time that CAH participates in this forum - the most significant event in the aviation field. Moreover, CAH will take a leading role and host the 15th World Routes Development Forum next year. It will be the first time that China undertakes worldwide aviation forum.
Operating international routes is not only the main contributor to the revenue of Beijing Capital International Airport, but also an important factor of building a major air hub in Asia-Pacific region. CAH has established the hub strategy as its goal for development. And a series of strategy implementation systems are formed gradually.
In recent years, CAH has accelerated its step of hub building. At present, Beijing airport is the first and only airport in Asia which operates three runways. Since the opening of Terminal 3, Beijing airportfs handling capacity has reached 82 million. All these factors have provided ample resources and a highly effective operating platform for development of the hub.
Beijing airport is reaching its goal to become Asia-Pacific international hub. Dong Zhiyi, deputy general manager of CAH, predicts that the construction of Asia-Pacific international hub will be completed during 2012-2015 and by then Beijing Capital International Airport will not only be the 1st gateway of China but also the international transit hub. It will be an air bridge of three major aviation markets of Asia, Europe and America.
