Cathay Pacific welcomes the Privacy Commissioner' decision not to appeal the ruling of the Judicial Review (JR).
The JR ruling confirmed the need for Cathay Pacific to seek medical information under the airline' Attendance Monitoring Programme (AMP), and it also acknowledged the need for Cathay Pacific to inform cabin crew why it was necessary for them to give consent to disclose relevant medical records.
We have always taken the view that the AMP and the collection of the medical information are lawful and in full compliance with the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance. We are pleased that the final outcome supports our view.
We appreciate that the Commissioner has taken the opportunity to work with Cathay Pacific on certain aspects of communication in relation to the AMP. We have developed various improvements to communications with the cabin crew community and will be implementing these.
We are pleased that this matter is now satisfactorily concluded.
