Air China named one of the "Most Globally Competitive Chinese Companies 2008"

At the award ceremony for "Most Globally Competitive Chinese Companies 2008," held October 25th in Beijing, Air China Ltd. was included on the list of 20 winners.Mr. Liu Pei Zhi, Vice President of Air China, accepted the award. This is the second time that Air China has won the award since 2007.

Liu Pei Zhi expressed that, as the only airline in China that has permission to carry a national flag on its aircraft, Air China has been aiming for enhanced global competitiveness for years. This important goal was outlined in the company's new strategic objectives: "become a global leader in competitiveness, maintain continuous improvement and development, provide a unique customer experience and ensure the steady increase of relevant profits." This year, Air China successfully fulfilled its responsibility as airline partner of the 2008 Beijing Olympics, serving the Olympic Family in full. Its chartered flights provided a much-needed service during the Beijing Olympics domestic/overseas torch relay with "Journey of Harmony" as the airline's theme. During the relay, Air China maintained safe operations, provided high quality service, had a punctuality rate of 100%, and set many civil aviation records for single-aircraft operation. The airline guaranteed services for Olympic-related flights on an unprecedented scale, ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of all Olympic flights. A total of 4,992 Olympics-related flights were guaranteed, 50,908 members of Olympic Family were transported and the normal flight operation rate reached 85.5%. Services for Olympic special/chartered flights, business flights were completed consistently and on a large scale, including 180 special flights and chartered flights for government leaders and 166 business flights, setting a record for the aviation industry. No safety problems occurred during the completion of assignments with strict requirements that were sometimes difficult to abide by, including tasks related to transportation, loading and unloading, and storage and delivery of Olympic luggage and goods. During the Olympics, Air China successfully completed all Olympics air transportation assignments and was highly praised by BOCOG and its passengers, adding to the company's overall competitiveness.Air China expects to see continuous improvement in operations and quality of service, so as to provide our passengers with the highest level of airline service.

That the award for "Most Globally Competitive Chinese Company" is the first domestic list to assess the ability of Chinese companies to survive and compete in the global market. The award assesses various Chinese companies' overseas operating performance, sustainable global competitiveness, and cross-culture management, observing and documenting the developmentary process of Chinese enterprises form "local businesses" to "multi-national corporations". This year's award process took six months, starting in April. Initially, a research team formed by Roland Berger Strategy Consultants, and Global Entrepreneur magazine launched a short list of 50 companies this June after comparing data and assessing the strength of thousands of Chinese companies listed in the competition. After a final assessment and vote by senior judges, the top 20 winners of the "Most Globally Competitive Chinese Companies 2008" (GCC) were announced.The list was composed after evaluation of three major components: operating performance, sustainable competitiveness, and international corporate culture. These were subdivided into eight specific standards, including overall operating performance, overseas business development, production and purchasing management, global marketing, international human resources, capability of innovation and R&D, brand building, and cross-cultural adaptation.
