On November 3, 2008, a delegation led by Chen Yunlin, Chief of the Mainland Chinese Association for Relations across the Taiwan Strait (ARATS), arrived in Taipei to commence historic cross-straits dialogue. The 80 man delegation flew on the Air China charter flight, Lucky Olympics. It took off at 7:30am, soaring into the blue sky and bringing with it all the best wishes of the mainland people.
This invitation to Taipei by leaders of ARATS is a significant event in the history of cross-straits relations. To ensure a successful trip for the delegation, all members of Air China made careful preparations. They specially chose Lucky Olympics, which was well received during the Olympics, to implement the task. Painted on the body of Lucky Olympics are 5 lovely Fuwa in different poses, delivering luck and happiness to the Taiwanese people. In terms of the crew arrangement, Air China chose a veteran captain to operate the flight, and selected excellent flight attendants to supplement the Golden Phoenix crew responsible for delivering the Olympic torch. During the flight, the crew carefully prepared special meals for the delegates, and created a relaxing environment. At 11:00am, the delegation, led by Chen Yunlin, successfully landed in Taipei.
According to sources, during the dialogue the two parties will negotiate issues such as cross-straits chartered cargo flights, daily flights, and the establishment of a new direct two-way air route, among others items. The delegation led by Chen Yunlin will charter a flight back to Beijing on November 7, 2008.
