Beijing Capital International Airport (BCIA) predicts its passenger traffic for 2008 would rise 5% year over year, hitting 58 million, while the growth would exceed 10% in 2010.
Statistics show that passenger traffic began sliding down since the second quarter and just strongly rebounded in October. The low season of airlines industry and sharp decrease in foreign passengers jointly painted a clod picture in the past time of November, pulling down the passenger traffic by 20%.
BCIA has solid confidence in 2009, because the Chinese economy is healthy and stable and the government is taking measures to stir domestic demand. The airport expects to serve 65 million passengers in 2009.
Moreover, its expanding speed is slower than increase in passenger traffic. All its existing handling capacity will be exhausted by 2012, although it has spent huge in expansion for the 2008 Olympic Games.
The second airport of BCIA is estimated to break earth in 2009 and to start service in 2015. Before that, the airport has to build up the fourth runway for the rising passengers.
