Having remarkably completed its task of Olympic support services and achieved its solemn commitment as a passenger aviation partner, Air China was granted full recognition from the state central leadership, the Olympic Organizing Committee, the Civil Aviation Authority and the Air China Group and won enthusiastic praise from members of the Olympic Family.
To comprehensively summarize its experience of Olympic support services, further improve its management level and service quality, and inspire the staff to strive for continued success, Air China convened a grand summarizing and commending assembly for Olympic service support at its headquarters on the afternoon of November 11, 2008.

Tan Zhihong delivered a comprehensive summary of Air China's Olympic support services. He stated that the successful completion of the Olympic support task is the embodiment of Air China's resolute implementation of the important decisions of the Party Central Committee and State Council and the substantial serving of overall interests of the party and nation at a critical time. It has presented the strength and image of Air China as the national flag carrier and the positive spiritual characteristics of all Air China cadres and staff. It also greatly enhanced the cohesion and solidarity of the company, thus having a significance that surpasses business operation and brand building. Major gains of Air China from the Olympic service support include: (1) the training and subsequent testing of the team; (2) the pattern of production organization which was further optimized; (3) inter-departmental co-operation and awareness have been significantly increased; (4) the service system has been improved; (5) the basic support capability was fully enhanced; (6) the staff has been exercised; (7) the management level has been promoted through the opportunity to participate in Olympic support; and, (8) the company's image has been upgraded. Air China's successful completion of Olympic support services is mainly due to the unity of understanding at all levels and a high degree of attention, extensive mobilization and participation of the entire staff, good preparations and precautions, careful organization and unified command, close coordination of all general interests, strengthened publicity, and established image.
Tan Zhihong pointed out that we should have an all-around review of Olympic support services, conscientiously summing up the experience, exploring new ideas and taking initiatives to enhance management level. This should include implementing advanced operation and control systems for safety operation, perfecting patterns of information control, crisis management ability, service to passengers with disability, support for executive (private) airplanes, and staff training. Such positive experiences and methods used during the Olympic support period will become normal and regular processes, turning these positive practices into long-term mechanisms for company development. This, in turn, will achieve constantly improving service, striving to upgrade standards, and promoting better development.
In view of the impact of the current global financial crisis on the airline industry, Tan Zhihong asked Air China organizations at all levels to continue the noble sense of mission, responsibility, and dedication reflected in our staff during Olympic support services to the present corporate efforts in managing the "cold winter". With successful service during the Beijing Olympic and Paralympic Games as the driving force, he called upon all staff to vigorously carry forward the spirits of patriotism to win honor for the country. Displaying dedication to hard work, professionalism to strive for excellence, and innovation to conquer setbacks, Air China employees are determined to make progress, continue to forge ahead, and make every effort for the healthy, stable and rapid development of Air China.
It is understood that with four years of careful preparation, two years of tackling difficult problems and 62 days of hard work during the events, Air China had overcome all difficulties and successfully completed the support service project for "Good Luck Beijing" test events, the transition to Terminal 3, domestic and overseas delivery of the Olympic torch, as well as tasks during the Olympic and Paralympic Games. The Olympic support service project has created a number of records in China’s civil aviation history. The torch relay flying created eight records for a single aircraft in China's civil aviation history including the longest outside flying time, the widest geographical range, the longest flying distance, the largest number of take-off and landing airports, the largest number of countries and regions crossed, the highest support standard, the greatest support difficulty, and the largest number of people mobilized and participating. In addition, a series of historic records have also been created regarding the boarding accuracy of Olympic-related passengers, the accuracy of baggage handling, the amount of support given to disabled passengers which included the time allowed for their entry and exit of aircrafts, as well as the largest number of aircrafts supported and the most extensive region and largest span supported. At the same time, Air China has implemented safety measures for all aspects of flight operation. It has developed support programs for air defense and security, and organized more than 40 Olympic security drills, thus ensuring security during the Games and subsequently creating a safe and peaceful environment for the Olympics. The services started with details and innovations, and with constant improvement, launched a series of service products that provide added convenience for all passengers. It also carried out a great deal of effective work, thus achieving "gold" service and enhanced service quality.
