Chinese stocks ended lower in the morning trading session on Friday with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index dropping 4.28%, following extended decline in neighboring markets.
The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index, which covers both A shares and B shares on the Shanghai Stock Exchange, lost 84.95 points to close at 1898.81 points in the morning session.
The Shenzhen Component Index on the smaller Shenzhen Stock Exchange fell 4.35% or 291.30 points to stand at 6405.53 points.
Decliners in the Shanghai market outnumbered gainers by 760 to 53, while 41 were unchanged.
Air China Ltd, the largest carrier in the country by market value, plunged 6.71% to RMB 4.17. China Eastern Airlines, the country's third-largest carrier, plummeted 9.15% to RMB 4.27. China Southern Airlines Co, the largest airline by fleet size in the country, dived 7.55% to RMB 3.55.
