Chinese stocks ended mixed on Friday taking cues from stumbles on Wall Street and neighboring markets in Asia.
The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index, which covers both A shares and B shares on the Shanghai Stock Exchange, slightly declined 0.72%, or 14.37 points, to 1969.39 points after fluctuating between 2013.18 and 1893.15 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index on the smaller Shenzhen Stock Exchange edged up 0.22% or 14.52 points to 6696.83 points, after touching an intraday low of 6389.61 points.
Gainers in the Shanghai market outnumbered decliners by 565 to 232, while 57 were unchanged. Aggregated turnover on the two bourses was RMB 124.39 billion.
China Life Insurance Co, the country's largest life insurance company, gained 2.22% to RMB 20.69, while its smaller rival Ping An Insurance (Group) Co added 1.37% to RMB 24.46.
Market heavy weight PetroChina, the nation's top oil producer, edged down 0.52% to close at RMB 11.54, while Asia's largest oil refiner Sinopec ended flat to close at RMB 8.42.
CITIC Securities Co. Ltd, the country's most profitable brokerage, rose 0.56% to RMB 19.87. Changjiang Securities Co. Ltd lost 3.31% to settle at RMB 11.09.
China Vanke Co Ltd, the country's largest publicly traded residential properties developer, advanced 4.37% to RMB 6.92. Gemdale Corp, one of the largest property developers in China, gained 3.87% to close at RMB 6.97. COFCO Property (Group) Co. Ltd advanced 4.63% to RMB 6.33.
Air China Ltd, the largest carrier in the country by market value, shrank 3.13% to RMB 4.33. China Eastern Airlines, the country's third-largest carrier, dived 6.60% to RMB 4.39. China Southern Airlines Co, the largest airline by fleet size in the country, skidded 4.69% to RMB 3.66.
